It was another ‘full house’ at La Baritaudiere on Thursday night, 59 Members and friends queueing up for their welcome Kir.   Michele had decorated the tables with fishy references – shells, coral etc etc and the tables looked splendid. Cette fois encore, nous avons affiché “complet” pour la Soirée Choucroute de la Mer. Michèle avait décoré les tables en accord vec la mer, les poissons et les coquillages et tout était superbe.

 One or two had declined the Choucroute and had been provided with an alternative.

Those of us who partook of the delicious Choucroute enjoyed salmon, smoked haddock and gambas.   The choucroute with its accompanying sauce  was deliciously ‘lemony’. Ceux qui ont dégusté la choucroute se sont régalés avec le saumon, le haddock fumé et les gambas, avec en accompagnement une sauce au beurre blanc déliceuse …

 A Sauvignon wine from Touraine helped wash it all down.  Cheese and desert followed, by which time…….. Un petit Sauvignon de Touraine a aidé à faire couler tout cela. Les fromages et le dessert ont suivi, et à ce moment là …

…………   the usual enthusiasm for singing took over.   JP seen above leading some ‘tomfoolery’. … l’enthousiasme habituel pour les chansons a pris le dessus. Jean-Pierre Bruneau en chef d’orchestre de rigolade …

Mike and Sylviaine also joining in with gusto! Mike et Sylviane rejoignent la “chorale” avec enthousiasme More followed, with the ‘usual suspects’, Marie and Veronique conducting the singing.       It is noteworthy that the quality of the singing of Members improves every time.

Our meetings on  Thursday evening are increasingly   lively and interesting, and with more and more members being encouraged to ‘take to the stage’ and teach or entertain,  as we learn  new words while having a lot of fun.  Nos rencontres du jeudi soir sont de plus en plus vivantes et intéressantes, avec de plus en plus de membres participant à l’animation et nous apprenons du vocabulaire tout en nous amusant beaucoup.

Last Thursday 9th May was no exception, with Jean-Paul as host of the evening. The chosen theme  was Ethiopia, where Jean-Paul spent some years working.  His  wife is Ethiopian, and  a busy lady, but who frequently bakes cakes for our Friday morning  quiz and which Jean-Paul transports on his bike.  

However, for his presentation, he was dressed in his Ethiopian wedding costume (for the second time in his life!!!) and had brought us lots of typical objects and he explained their use and the  Ethiopean lifestyle. Very interesting and quite moving. Jeudi dernier n’a pas dérogé à la règle, avec Jean-Paul en animateur. Il avait choisi comme thème l’Ethiopie, car il y a travaillé et son épouse est Ethiopienne. (C’est une femme très active et elle nous gâte fréquemment le vendredi matin, car Jean-Paul nous apporte très souvent des gâteaux délicieux qu’il transporte sur son vélo …) Pour cette soirée, il avait revêtu son costume de mariage (pour la deuxième fois de sa vie !!!) et nous avait apporté toutes sortes d’objets typiques, en nous expliquant leur utilisation et le style de vie là-bas. Soirée très intéressante et émouvante.
